Ten years ago I bought a modest one story Old Shandon bungalow with the usual rabbit warren of rooms. I could not even figure out what some of the rooms were intended to be used for. One room, a dark room with no windows appeared to be designed for eating. I was downsizing and intended to live in this house for the rest of my life and if this house was going to be comfortable for me it needed to be altered dramatically. I engaged an architect and discussed my ideas with him. I was dismayed with his renderings. He was not able to execute my bold vision for my final house. Some time later I contacted Michael Haigler. I told him of my dream for the house, to remove all possible walls and ceilings and add a screened porch, a garage and an au pair unit. He understood me and I got all that I wanted and more. My house looks like a modest bungalow from the outside and takes your breath away when you enter the front door. It has curved and angled walls and ceilings and a welcoming openness throughout. I am a cook, so the kitchen is in the middle of things; skylights flood the house with light; across the back is a huge screened porch where we eat most of our meals. Best of all is the way that the space is utilized. I use all of the space in my house almost every day.

We purchased a lot on Lake Murray to build our retirement home. We reviewed numerous prepared plans and could not find anything that suited us and worked on the unique shape of our lot. We contacted Michael to explore having a custom design that would work on our property, take advantage of the view, and meet our idea of where we wanted to live after retirement. He listened to what we wanted, added suggestions, and within a few consultations developed what we wanted. Michael helped us through the entire process from concept to completed lake home.

Michael Haigler has helped my wife and me on 2 projects over the past few years. The first was an outdoor porch addition and the second was a 5000 plus square foot new home design. Michael was a pleasure to work with on both projects and the end results are spectacular. He did an excellent job of laying out the cost expectations associated with his services up front and the value of his design became very apparent during construction. There were no change orders during construction on either project, due to the detailed drawings. During construction, Michael worked very well with the contractor on our behalf and was an excellent resource during the contractor selection and construction process.
On a personal side, the design meetings with Michael were easy going and not stressful and took place at our house which was very convenient. We are very pleased with the Architectural Design services provided by Mr. Haigler and highly recommend him for services.

We worked with Michael to design a rear addition for our 1930s tudor cottage in a historic district. He gave us a handsome new master bath, multi-purpose room and porch that have completely changed the way we live in our home and engage with our back yard. He even included design features that help showcase our collections. Michael helped us update our lifestyle while respecting the historic design of the house and neighborhood.
